Lithium
There is growing evidence that lithium may be an essential mineral in the
human diet. Large amounts are used in the treatment of manic depression
and bipolar disorder.
Lithium is a naturally occurring mineral similar to sodium
and potassium. Small amounts are present in most foods.
The downside to Lithium is the levels required for therapy are extremly close to what
has been deemed toxic. Therefore if lithium treatment is given, high number of blood
tests must follow.
